Washington, DC -- Congressman David Davis today joined colleagues from both the House and Senate Chamber in a rally entitled “Stop the War on the Poor,” hosted by Americans for American Energy, a non-profit, grassroots-based organization dedicated to educating the public about the importance of greater energy independence for America and promoting public policies that support that goal.

Congressman David Davis also co-sponsored the Americans for American Energy Act (H.R. 6384) and issued the following statement after the rally: “Week after week, I, along with my fellow Republican colleagues have introduced, supported and demanded votes on legislation that would immediately open up A.N.W.R., the Outer Continental Shelf and our vast coal reserves to provide relief to those struggling with high energy costs,” said Congressman David Davis, who has been an ardent supporter of increasing American energy throughout his first term in Congress while also noting that a recent FOXNews poll reported that just over three-quarters (76 percent) support immediately increasing oil drilling in the United States.

“After President Bush announced yesterday that he was lifting the Executive ban on drilling on our Outer Continental Shelf, the only thing standing between America and increased energy independence is Congressional Leadership in Washington,” said Congressman David Davis, who co-sponsored H.R. 6384, the Americans for American Energy Act which rolls out a 12-step program of financial and regulatory incentives to encourage the production of more American energy from all resources and technologies.

“H.R. 6384, the Americans for American Energy Act, is another ‘all of the above’ piece of energy legislation aimed at helping families and small businesses across our nation,” said Congressman David Davis, who has continually advocated for the use of more American energy, the use of alternative fuels and innovative new technologies like clean-coal and switchgrass.

"It is my hope that Congressional Leadership in Washington will bring this and other pieces of legislation like the No More Excuses Energy Act (H.R. 3089) to the House Floor for an up or down vote as soon as possible on behalf of the millions of struggling Americans,” Congressman David Davis concluded.
