FROM THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

July 14, 2008

NASHVILLE — Governor Phil Bredesen on Wednesday (7/16) will convene the third meeting of the Governor’s Task Force on Energy Policy as part of the ongoing process to develop a new state energy plan. The 17-member panel includes key state officials as well as representatives of business, environmental and other interests.  The task force is charged with making recommendations to help Tennessee become a leader in energy efficiency and conservation, development of clean-energy technology, and use of alternative fuels and renewable energy sources.

The media and public are invited to attend Wednesday’s meeting. Presenting at the meeting will be representatives of the Atlanta-based Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (SEEA), which will preview the industrial section of a new report being produced for the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Additionally, representatives of Eastman will discuss industrial energy efficiency initiatives and results at its Kingsport site. Separately, representatives of Blountville-based biofuels producer Nu-Energie will discuss the biofuels industry as part of a broader discussion on how Tennessee can be a leader in the development of clean-energy technology.

Finally, the Governor and task force members will conclude conversations on how state government can do a better job “leading by example,” particularly in managing its buildings and vehicle fleet. Live streaming video of the meeting will be available at http://www.tn.gov/energy.
