Attorney General Kelly Ayotte announced today that former members of Exeter Health and Fitness, a health club which closed unexpectedly and without notice to its members, will be reimbursed for the unused portion of their memberships.

As required by New Hampshire law, Exeter Health and Fitness had posted a $50,000 surety bond which the Attorney General’s Office proceeded against in order to obtain refunds for former members of the health club.  Former members of the health club, who file written complaints with the Consumer Protection Bureau of the Attorney General’s Office, will receive a refund for that portion of their membership which they were unable to use due to the club’s closing.

Attorney General Ayotte said, “The surety bond requirement for health clubs in New Hampshire is an important tool which enables my office to continue its vigorous efforts to protect consumers and their hard earned money.”

If a consumer has not already done so, in order to receive a refund, he or she can log onto http://www.doj.nh.gov/consumer , and click on the “Filing a Consumer Complaint” link.  Complaints can be filed electronically, or downloaded and mailed to the Consumer Protection Bureau of the Attorney General’s Office.  Consumers who do not have access to a computer can call the Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-468-4454 to receive a complaint form.
