JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt requested the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations extend the deadline for employers to file their quarterly unemployment insurance tax reports, after President Bush approved his request for federal disaster assistance. As a result of recent floods and severe weather along the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, employers will have an additional 30 days to file their information.

“The assistance will give employers who are grappling with the flooding additional time to provide this information,” Gov. Blunt said. “I have directed all state departments to do all they can to help Missourians who have been impacted by the flooding and the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations have answered my call with this action.”

To request an extension until August 31, 2008, employers must write or send an electronic request through the Unemployment State Tax Automated Reporting (USTAR) system.

The following counties were included in the disaster declaration: Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Cape Girardeau, Clark, Holt, Jefferson, Lewis, Lincoln, Marion, Mississippi, New Madrid, Nodaway, Pemiscot, Perry, Pike, Platte, Ralls, St. Charles, St. Louis, Ste. Genevieve, and Scott Counties, and the independent City of St. Louis.

The request must be submitted by the employer prior to or along with the 2nd quarter 2008 report, which is normally due on July 31st. Written requests may be submitted to the address listed on the contribution and wage report or to P.O Box 59, Attention: Employer Accounts Unit, Jefferson City, MO 65104. Requests may be submitted electronically through USTAR at http://https://www.ustar.dolir.mo.gov/ustar. Employers who have questions concerning these requests should call the Division of Employment Security at (573) 751-1995.
