JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today praised the response efforts of private companies such as Wal-Mart, many local businesses and others for graciously providing needed resources to flood- stricken communities.

“The generosity of Missourians is amazing, and it is always encouraging to see how our fellow citizens go out of their way to help their neighbors during their time of need,” Gov. Blunt said. “I am thankful for the support of the business community across our state for their assistance in assisting Missouri families impacted by the flooding. Their charity is greatly appreciated and a true demonstration of effective public-private partnerships.”

For example, Wal-Mart donated and delivered numerous pallets of drinking water to many local northeast Missouri communities facing flooding from the Mississippi River this week.

Gov. Blunt has declared a state of emergency, activated the state’s emergency operations center, activated more than 800 members of the Missouri National Guard, and directed state departments to assist in every way possible.

Gov. Blunt has personally toured communities impacted by the flooding including Hannibal, Canton, Louisiana, Clarksville, Winfield and St. Charles.
