JEFFERSON CITY With gas prices continuing to rise, Gov. Matt Blunt is encouraging Missourians to enjoy one of the states nearly 100 state parks and historic sites as great opportunities for weekend getaways and day trips. Gov. Blunt and his family recently concluded a 13-stop Show-Me Tourism Tour to promote Missouris potential as a vacation close to home.

"As I travel the state I continue to be impressed with the countless treasures right in our own backyards," Gov. Blunt said. "This summer, as gas prices drive the costs of long distance travel even higher, I encourage Missourians to explore the many opportunities within arms reach, right here in Missouri. Missouri is a great place to live, work and raise a family, and it is also a great place to take a vacation."

With skyrocketing gas prices causing some to alter their summer plans, Gov. Blunt launched his Show-Me Tourism Tour to promote many of the states tourism treasures that are a little closer to home for Missouri families and great destinations for our visitors.

The states historic sites and parks boast more than 200,000 acres available to the public and have something to fit everyones needs, including almost 2,000 picnic sites and 840 miles of trail.

In addition to state parks and historic sites, Missouri is home to countless great destinations. In fact the state boasts so many destinations (cultural, culinary, adventure related, outdoor) that any list or summary would inevitably be incomplete. Gov. Blunt encourages Missourians to consider taking a break and get away without leaving the state.
