June 19, 2008

SALEM – An Essex County Grand Jury indicted a Peabody man in connection with allegedly selling cocaine to an undercover Massachusetts State Trooper. Miguel Medina, age 37, was indicted on charges of Distribution of a Class B Substance (Cocaine) and Trafficking Cocaine over 14 Grams.

An investigation conducted by Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the Attorney General’s Office began in January 2008 after receiving information about drug activity in the Peabody area. During the course of the investigation, Medina allegedly sold cocaine on several instances to an undercover Massachusetts State Trooper at a location in the Peabody area. In one of those instances Medina allegedly sold the undercover trooper an ounce of cocaine. Based on information gathered during the course of the investigation, on March 10, 2008, authorities obtained and executed a search warrant at Medina’s Peabody residence. During this search investigators seized drugs, approximately $3,000 in cash, and drug paraphernalia.

An Essex County Grand Jury returned the indictments against Medina yesterday afternoon. He is set to be arraigned on July 9, 2008, in Essex Superior Court.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Jessica Massey, of Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Special Investigations and Narcotics Division, with assistance from Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the Attorney General’s Office.
