Republican Party of Kansas: Barack Obama doesn't think you should own a gun
- “I don’t believe people should be able to own guns.”
- Democrat Presidential Candidate Barack Obama

FROM THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF KANSAS

June 26, 2008

Earlier today, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the Washington, DC gun ban was unconstitutional.

This is what the Kansas Republican Party said in response:

Party Chairman Kris Kobach stated, “This decision confirms what I have long believed, in my years of research as a Professor of Constitutional Law: that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms held by all law-abiding adult citizens, that the DC ban on handguns is unconstitutional, and that requiring people to keep their guns in the home disabled is also unconstitutional.”

“James Madison, who wrote the words of the Second Amendment, would be proud. Justice Scalia’s opinion for the majority nailed it exactly, perfectly expressing the meaning of the right to keep and bear arms.”

How can Obama campaign to be President knowing he will have to take an oath to uphold the Constitution, when he is clearly at odds with it on this vital issue?

Will this change Sebelius’ support of Obama?

No. Kathleen Sebelius has continuously stomped on our Constitutional rights in Kansas by opposing and vetoing reasonable legislation intended to protect our 2nd Amendment rights. During her time as Governor she has vetoed common-sense gun legislation and steadfastly refused to support the 2nd Amendment. (Veto Message on HB 2528, April 13, 2007 and Veto Message on SB 418, March 26, 2006)

This is just another example of how Kathleen Sebelius is completely out of step with everyday Kansans and Americans regarding the 2nd Amendment.

This decision makes the November elections even more important. John McCain is a steadfast supporter of the 2nd Amendment. Voters will be faced with a choice—Senator John McCain, who has been a steadfast supporter of the 2nd Amendment, or Barack Obama arguably the most anti-gun candidate in our history.
