SHAWNEE, Kan. As concerns grow about the economy, higher gas prices, and the cost of food, Congressman Dennis Moore joined ranks once again yesterday with Democratic Party leader Nancy Pelosi and for the fourth time, voted for a budget with record spending that will pave the way for the single largest tax increase in United States history.
With the support of Dennis Moore, this budget will increase the American tax burden by no less than $683 billion over the next 5 years, resulting in an average increase in the 3rd District of $2,422 per family.
The House Budget Committee, which Dennis Moore is a member of, put forth recommendations that will:
Raise the marginal tax rate for all Americans by as much as $326 billion over the next 5 years.
Resurrect the death tax.
Resurrect the marriage penalty.
Slice the 'child' tax-credit in half, costing families an additional $500 per child.
In response to Dennis Moore's support of the largest tax-hike in U.S. history, Nick Jordan said, "At a time when gas, food and energy prices are reaching all-time highs, Congress should be doing everything in its power to help families keep more of their hard-earned money - not take it away. More spending and more taxes are just more of what we have come to expect from the status quo politicians in Washington."
Yesterday's budget vote marks the fourth consecutive time that Dennis Moore has been faced with the decision to either allow his constituents to keep more of their hard-earned money or fall in line with his party leadership. Unfortunately, with a 95% partisan voting record, Dennis Moore has consistently chosen to vote along party lines.
"This is yet another example of how the business-as-usual politics in Washington have resulted in the lowest approval ratings ever for Congress," Dustin Olson, Jordan for Congress Campaign Manager, said. "Whether it's raising taxes, increased spending, or out-of-control pork barrel pet-projects, Dennis Moore has consistently shown that he is more interested in supporting Nancy Pelosi's out-of-touch agenda than solving the critical issues concerning Kansans."
