Topeka, KS—Today, the Kansas Republican Party challenged Democrats Nancy Boyda (KS-2) and Dennis Moore (KS-3) for their gargantuan tax hike votes on middle-class Americans.

“In between the rising fuel prices and the concerns surfacing over the economy, families in Kansas need all the help they can get. Moore and Boyda’s vote today for tax increases that would cost the average family of 4 who earns $40,000, $2,345 in 2011 is simply appalling,” stated Kansas GOP Executive Director Christian Morgan.

“This vote comes on the heels of the vote that paved the way for the largest tax increase in United States history. Democrats have promised that they would “not heap mountains of debt on future generations,” (Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Press Conference, 6/16/2006.) Yet, Moore and Boyda’s vote today would cause our national debt to reach nearly $10 trillion dollars by the end of the year.”

“Even Inventor’s Buisness Daily is criticizing this vote:

“Make no mistake: This tax hike is gargantuan...On average, 116 million taxpayers will see a jump of $1,800 in their annual tax bill. Some 48 million married couples - the heart of the middle class that Democrats say they want to help - will be slapped with an average increase of $3,007. Even the elderly will take a hit - $2,181 on average. … Quite a week's work for one Congress.” (Investor’s Business Daily, 6/4/08)

Morgan concluded, “This vote just further demonstrates how out of touch both Moore and Boyda have become with the realty that is facing Kansas families in their districts. In November, voters will be faced with a stark contrast between the incumbents and their Republican replacements. I am confident these voters will make the right choice.”
