State Treasurer’s workshops to fight foreclosure
- Resources provided to community members statewide

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE STATE TREASURER

July 21, 2008

The Illinois State Treasurer’s Office will host a series of foreclosure prevention workshops for community leaders, clergy and employers in Illinois from Monday, July 21 through Friday, July 25.

The “Community Coalitions Fighting Foreclosure” workshops will provide participants with information on foreclosure alternatives, assistance and scams, as well as debt management and predatory lending. The workshops are not designed for people facing foreclosure; instead, they aims to educate community members with whom homeowners interact.

“More than 70 percent of people facing foreclosure never talk to their lender. Instead, they reach out to friends, family, employers or clergy for advice,” said Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias. “We want to arm these people with good information so they can be sympathetic and offer real solutions to their peers.”

The Treasurer’s Office is partnering with the FDIC’s Alliance for Economic Inclusion to host these “train the trainer” events. The workshops will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 21 through Friday, July 25. A boxed lunch will be provided to those in attendance. See the full schedule listed below.

Pre-registration is encouraged. For more information or to register for an event, please contact Kristen Zueck at (217) 524-8881 or kzueck@treasurer.state.il.us.
