Office of the State Treasurer: Giannoulias opens new satellite office in Rock Island
- Improves state outreach to western Illinois

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE STATE TREASURER

July 14, 2008

In an effort to reach more Illinois residents, State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias today opened a Treasurer’s satellite office in the Rock Island County Building at no new cost to the state.

Historically, the State Treasurer has had offices in Springfield and Chicago. Since Giannoulias began his term as the State Treasurer in January 2007, he has opened satellite offices in Mt. Vernon, Riverdale, Rockford, and now at 1504 Third Avenue in Rock Island.

“Rock Island and Moline are important to the state’s economy and my office,” Giannoulias said. “State business doesn’t just happen in Springfield and Chicago. This new satellite office will provide more access to our programs and staff for residents in the Quad Cities area.”

Residents can stop by the office to learn about many of the Treasurer’s programs including the Bright Start College Savings Program, low-interest loan programs for businesses, residents and non-profits, and the Cash Dash program. In addition, Treasurer’s Office employees will travel to surrounding areas to promote its programs and services for local residents and government agencies.

“Especially in tough economic times, the Treasurer’s Office offers so many great services and programs to Illinois residents,” State Sen. Mike Jacobs (D-Moline) said. “We’re thrilled to have the Treasurer’s Office in the neighborhood.”

The Treasurer’s Office recently opened a low-interest loan program to Quad Cities residents and businesses to help them recover from storm damage.

This is something that State Rep. Mike Boland (D-Moline) and his constituents could possibly use after the 2008 floods.

“My district office has been closed after all of the recent flooding in the Quad Cities area, it will be nice to have a satellite Treasurer’s Office close in our area to assist with loan applications,” Boland said.

The Treasurer’s Office will not be spending any new tax dollars operating the new satellite office. Existing employees will staff the office. The Treasurer’s Office is not paying rent for the new space because it is housed in a state government building.

“Rock Island is the center of government of Rock Island County which is one of the major population centers in downstate Illinois,” said Rock Island Mayor Mark Schwiebert. “We commend the State Treasurer for his decision to open a satellite office in Rock Island to extend the services of the State Treasurer’s office in a more easily accessible way to residents of northwest Illinois.” The Treasurer’s satellite office will be open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. To learn more about the Treasurer’s Office and the programs it offers, visit http://www.treasurer.il.gov or call the Rock Island office at (309) 793-7760.
