(Montana) - State Superintendent Linda McCulloch today announced that a new college and career preparation tool is now available through the Office of Public Instruction.

The brochure, entitled Are You Ready for Success? provides parents and students with useful information and resources regarding college readiness.

"Challenging courses help every student succeed after high school," said Superintendent McCulloch.  "This brochure was developed to help students choose the high school courses that will better prepare them for college and beyond."

Are You Ready for Success? features a designated list of advanced courses compiled by the Montana Board of Regents of Higher Education.  The courses, which are referred to as the "Rigorous Core," are the criteria for the MUS Honors Scholarship and other federal scholarship programs.

"Today's high school graduates face an increasingly competitive world," said Superintendent McCulloch.  "Students graduating with advanced high school courses often have more choices and opportunities.  I encourage every parent to go over this brochure with their child."

The brochure featuring a list of Montana's "Rigorous Core" courses is now available on the OPI website at http://www.opi.mt.gov/pdf/superintendent/collegeprep.pdf

Parents and students will also find links to college admissions requirements, entrance exams and financial planners.

"There are 143,405 public school students in Montana," said Superintendent McCulloch.  "My goal is to provide every student the information and resources they need to reach their full potential."
