Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Proclamation for Veterans Day

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

November 11, 2008

Gov. Schwarzenegger issued the following proclamation declaring November 11, 2008, as Veterans Day:

PROCLAMATION
Throughout our nation's history, the freedoms we hold dear have been protected by the brave men and women of our armed forces. From the Revolutionary War to those now fighting in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, our troops have demonstrated their honorable commitment to our country and Americans everywhere.

Our veterans have answered duty's call and defended our nation in every corner of the world. Forsaking the comforts of home, they have risked their lives to protect the liberties we enjoy. Their willingness to serve and the sacrifices that they have made are inspirational, and I extend my deepest gratitude for their invaluable service. We will be forever in their debt.

Veterans Day is observed on the anniversary of the World War I armistice that ended hostilities on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. How truly grateful we are to our veterans who have always been there for us in our country's hours of need. On this day, I ask all Californians to reflect upon the incredible sacrifices that our veterans have made and to thank them for their extraordinary service and courage.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim November 11, 2008, as "Veterans Day."

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 30th day of October 2008.

ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER

Governor of California
