PHOENIX -- Secretary of State Jan Brewer has been named to a second consecutive term as Western Regional Chairman of the National Lieutenant Governor’s Association (NLGA) Executive Board.  Her peers of lieutenant governors elected Secretary Brewer for the 2008-2009 term.  Since Arizona does not have a lieutenant governor, Secretary of State Brewer serves in such a capacity as the second highest constitutional office in the state.

“It is truly an honor to have been elected on a bi-partisan basis to serve on the Executive Board of the NLGA,” said Brewer. “I draw strength from the support and confidence shown by my colleagues in once again bestowing me with this opportunity to serve.”   Secretary Brewer’s role as Western Regional Chairman will include functioning as an officer of the association, helping monitor all activities, establishing policy resolutions, and engaging in specific bi-partisan NLGA projects.

The Western Region includes Arizona, Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, American Samoa, Guam, and the Mariana Islands.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on the challenging issues that the NLGA has been working on and to help focus some of the association's attention toward important topics facing Arizona,” added Brewer, “the NLGA’s innovative ideas and leadership roles will also give me great new insights into the responsibilities we all share.”

Secretary Brewer will serve on the Executive Board along with incoming Chairman – Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton of Wisconsin, Vice Chairman – Lt. Governor Bill Bolling of Virginia, and Treasurer – Lt. Governor Anthony Brown of Maryland.
