PHOENIX - As part of Secretary of State Jan Brewer's recently announced statewide effort to help recruit and train poll workers for the 2008 primary election, the Secretary today announced the community outreach marketing effort will begin this weekend. Specifically, a newly created Poll Worker Recruitment (PWR) Team (a dynamic grassroots marketing group) will educate Arizona residents on how they can get paid and become a part of history by working the polls this election season.

The Arizona Secretary of State's PWR Team will debut this weekend at Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale on Saturday, July 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Arizona Secretary of State's PWR Team is an energetic community outreach group who walk local venues with monitors perched on their backs and a keyboard attached to their wrists. The digital content on their monitors will educate Arizonans about the responsibilities of and qualifications for becoming a paid poll worker. The PWR Team will provide patrons with specifics about becoming a poll worker and can instantly take the information of those interested in signing on.

"Becoming a paid poll worker is a great way for Arizona residents to become the backbone of our democratic system and get paid in the process," said Secretary of State Jan Brewer. "Not only do people get a front row seat to this year's historical election, but they will also get to ensure that Arizona's elections run efficiently and smoothly."

With more than 2,200 polling places throughout the state, the Secretary of State is teaming up with every Arizona county to recruit more than 14,000 poll workers needed for the primary election and the general election. Citizens who sign up to become a poll worker will be compensated anywhere between $85 and $125 for each election they work. In this economy, that money could provide individuals with a month's worth of gas, more food on the table, toys for the kids, or an extra shopping trip.

"Arizona's election workforce is among the best in the business, but we still need the public's help to avoid major problems on Election Day by having the proper support," stated Secretary of State Brewer. The Secretary of State's recruitment and training program will ensure that Arizona continues to have an efficient election process in which every vote counts.
