August 05, 2008

MONTGOMERY - Governor Bob Riley today appointed Jefferson County Deputy District Attorney Brandon Falls to succeed retiring District Attorney David Barber.

Falls has been in the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office since October 1997 and has filled roles as deputy DA and division chief during that time.

“He has a fine legal background and comes with the highest recommendation from David Barber,” said Governor Riley. “I’m confident he will be an outstanding District Attorney for the people of Jefferson County.”

"It is a great honor to be appointed by Governor Riley as District Attorney for Jefferson County,” said Falls. “David Barber has been an inspiration to me, and I hope to continue the fine tradition that he has set in leading this office."

Barber met with Governor Riley on July 25 and announced he was resigning. His resignation takes effect Sept. 1.

Falls is a 1997 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law. He has served as an adjunct professor of law at the Cumberland School of Law and is a member of the Alabama Bar Association, the Birmingham Bar Association, the Alabama District Attorneys Association and the National District Attorneys Association.
